Summary

The seminar presents, in a general way, the stages of hazard identification, handling, storage, transport and final disposal of the chemical products used in the coffee farms, in order to give general recommendations that allow their adequate management, mitigating the impacts, negative effects on natural resources and the effects on human health. The seminar emphasizes the definition of the Globally Harmonized System, the elements that compose it and the guidelines for its proper implementation, as well as the actions carried out in Colombia for its application and the associated regulations. Regarding the labeling of agrochemicals, the condensed changes in the Andean Technical Manual for the Registration and Control of Chemical Pesticides for Agricultural Use are presented. General recommendations on the correct handling, storage and transport of cleaning and disinfection products, fuels, and products for agricultural use are given. Lastly, the final disposal of hazardous waste generated on farms, the guidelines for the management of products that belong to post-consumption plans and the treatment of water contaminated with agrochemicals are addressed. Also, general indications for the construction of Biocamas as an appropriate alternative for the treatment of this type of water are provided.
