The main endosperm protein of coffee belongs to the legume 11S family and the promoter of the gene that encodes it controls its expression specifically in the endosperm of the seed. In order to evaluate whether this promoter controls the expression of a heterologous gene in tobacco plants in the same way, two promoter fragments between positions -418 and 901, respectively, and the transcription start site (+1) of the coffee legume 11S gene were amplified by PCR.
