Summary

One of the daily challenges of the National Federation of Coffee Growers collaborators is to ensure that coffee growing in Colombia is 100% sustainable. To reach that goal, our institutional framework considers the environmental axis among its four fundamental axes, having soil as one of its components. To guarantee coffee growing sustainability, it is essential that the soil has the chemical, biological and physical characteristics that the coffee plant requires, therefore, it is important to know the properties of the soils of the coffee region and the edaphic requirements of the plant. The main topic of his seminar is the physical properties of soils in the Colombian coffee region and their relevance in the coffee production of Colombia; it also focuses on the properties that determine water storage capacity and roots development.
