The purpose of this standard is to establish the reference method for determining the caffeine content of coffee. The method is applicable to green coffee, decaffeinated green coffee, roasted coffee, decaffeinated roasted coffee, coffee extracts, both dry and liquid, and decaffeinated extracts, both dry and liquid. The lower limit of detection is 0.02% caffeine on a dry basis.
