Resumo

O armazenamento dos grãos de café sob condições ideais de temperatura e umidade relativa mantém por longos períodos de tempo a qualidade fisiológica para sua propagação. O objetivo desta pesquisa foi avaliar o efeito sobre a viabilidade das sementes em três ambientes com temperatura e umidade relativa contrastantes, durante 14 meses de armazenamento, por meio de: teste topográfico com tetracloreto de tetrazólio; germinação por emergência de radícula em caixas plásticas e contagem de mudas em um germinador de areia; e vigor por medidas morfométricas em mudas de Coffea arabica L. var Castillo®. Para a viabilidade das sementes, as categorias de coloração absoluta (A) e sem coloração (E) eram diferentes, independentemente dos ambientes e do efeito de armazenamento. O aparecimento de radículas e a germinação indicaram que a condição ambiental 10±2°C; 65±7% RH favorece uma maior proliferação de sementes com radículas e mudas emergentes (>75%) a 400 e 320 dias, respectivamente. Quanto à medição das variáveis morfométricas, apenas o comprimento do hipocótilo e da raiz axial mostrou uma tendência descritiva por tratamento e mês de armazenamento. A condição ambiental 10±2°C; 65±7% RH preservou a qualidade fisiológica das sementes para propagação durante quatro meses.
